Mahayuti Allies Will Decide On CM Face After Polls: Amit Shah

Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed confidence that Maharashtra’s ruling Mahayuti coalition will retain power with a full majority in the upcoming November 20 state assembly polls. Speaking after the release of the BJP’s manifesto, Shah said the choice of chief minister will be a collective decision among the coalition partners after the election results.

The Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the BJP, Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction, has each released its manifesto. Shah announced that a post-election committee of ministers from all three parties would be formed to prioritize the coalition’s campaign promises. “At present, Eknath Shinde is the chief minister. After the elections, all three alliance partners will decide on the chief minister,” Shah stated. He attributed splits in the Shiv Sena and NCP to internal family politics, criticizing Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar for prioritizing family members over party unity. “The BJP is against family-based politics,” he asserted.

Shah also rejected Congress’ claim that the BJP aims to undermine reservations, affirming the party’s commitment to strengthening quotas for OBCs. “It is the Modi government that has strengthened reservations for OBCs,” he stated.

In his remarks, Shah ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of insincerity in his recent Constitution-themed protest, claiming Gandhi carried a Constitution with blank pages, making him “the butt of a joke.” Shah added that the opposition’s MVA alliance was inconsistent on women’s welfare policies, as it has criticized the Mahayuti’s Ladki Bahin scheme while making a similar promise with increased financial aid.

Shah went on to dismiss the MVA’s claims about Maharashtra’s poor investment performance, noting that under MVA rule, Maharashtra ranked fourth in FDI, while the state has led in foreign investments for the past two years under Mahayuti.

With the election approaching, Shah’s remarks underscore the Mahayuti coalition’s efforts to retain power by presenting a united front and delivering on promises across women’s welfare, reservation, and economic investment.
