Malegaon Blast Case Victim’s Father Appeals Bombay HC To Extend Special Court Judge’s Tenure

Mumbai: A letter has been submitted to the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court by Nisar Ahmed Syed Bilal, the petitioner and the father of the person who died in the 2008 Malegaon blast. The letter recommends extending the tenure of National Investigation Agency Court Judge V Padalkar till the hearing of the case is over.
Padalakar is set to retire at the end of this month.

In a letter to the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Bilal said: “In spite of the immense effort by the accused to derail the case, the present presiding officer, Judge V Padalkar, has managed to depose 140 prosecution witnesses in a fair and just manner. There is no complaint against him even by the accused persons.”

“The change in the presiding officer will affect the trial and will delay the case, which has already been pending for a decade and includes several high-profile accused including BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur,” he said.

Copies of the letter have also been sent to Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde, Home Minister Amit Shah and NIA Headquarters.

On September 29, 2008, six people were killed and more than 100 injured when a motorcycle exploded near a mosque in Malegaon, a city in north Maharashtra.
