Mamata Banerjee Says ‘no’ To BJP Rath Yatra, Party Mulls Supreme Court Intervention

Mumbai : Recently Mamata Banerjee refused the permission for BJP’s rath yatra in West Bengal. The response was to state secretariat, it stated that this yatra can cause a chaotic situation and serious disruption of traffic. During this period, major festivals and programs are determined, in which the government’s resources including the police force require heavy deployment.

Meantime the ruling party will examine the intervention in apex court. According to the statement of Mamta Govt, BJP may hold a meeting at its place for which it should seek fresh permission from the state.

The BJP had planned to undertake the yatra’s in all the 42 parliamentary constituencies of the state and they were to be held this month.

On the other hand Party President Amit Shah is targeting 26-28 parliamentary seats in the state.

Earlier, West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh told PTI that Rath Yatra will be in December, but the campaign for the program will start after Durga Puja.

Whereas BJP President Amit Shah attacked the WB government after BJP was denied to carry out a rath yatra in Cooch Behar by the Calcutta High Court. Blaming the state administration for failing to maintain law and order in the state, Shah claimed that the TMC was afraid of the BJP and hence the party was not allowed to organize a rally in the state.
