Mamata Banerjee Slams Modi Govt Over COVID19 Situation, Unemployment

Mumbai: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Center over COVID infection and rising unemployment in the country.

West Bengal Chief Minister said, “Farmers are on the road, unemployment is rising and COVID cases are on the rise. I briefed PM Modi about concerns over the third wave and lack of vaccine.”

Stating that the opposition is united against the BJP government, the Bengal chief minister said she spoke to NCP chief Sharad Pawar and her visit to the national capital was successful.

“I spoke to NCP chief Sharad Pawar. The yatra was successful. We met for a political purpose. Democracy should move forward. Our slogan is ‘save democracy save the country’. We support farmers’ issues too. We’ll come here every two months,” she said after leaving TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s residence.

The Bengal CM is in the national capital for the last five days and is in discussions with opposition parties to form a united front for the 2024 general elections.

Keeping an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Banerjee on Wednesday discussed the “unity of the opposition” with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and said it was essential for everyone to come together in order to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
