Man Arrested As Seven-Year-Old Girls Dies After Being Hit By Bike

Mumbai: A 45-year-old lawyer, Dipesh Muni, from Wadala was arrested by the Matunga police on Monday, two days after his bike hit a seven-year-old girl at Dadar Parsi Colony and killed her.

The accident took place on Saturday afternoon, when the victim, Afreen Rabadi, stepped out of Jal Vakil building on Dr Ghanti Road to go to a park in the neighbourhood. Her mother was a few steps behind her. The accused, Dipesh Muni, was speeding and could not brake in time when the girl appeared in front of his motorcycle and hit her, the police said. Muni waited while residents gave the girl water and later he accompanied the girl to a clinic in the neighbourhood, said the police. Her external injuries were tended to and she was sent home. But at night, she started to vomit continuously. The girl’s parents rushed her to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries early on Sunday.

After Afreen’s death, the police took her parents’ statement and registered a case against Muni under Sections 304 (A) and 279 of the Indian Penal Code for rash driving and causing death due to negligence, besides provisions of Motor Vehicles Act. Muni was taken into custody on Monday.
