Man Arrested For Abducting, Raping Minor In J&K’s Reasi

Mumbai: A man has been arrested for kidnapping and raping a minor girl from the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The police gave this information on Tuesday.

A 14-year-old girl was rescued from the abductor’s house in Poonch district, while the accused was arrested from an area in Jammu within three weeks of the incident, a police spokesman said.

He said the minor’s father had lodged a complaint with the Reasi police station on December 28 last year that his minor daughter had gone to buy milk from a shop, but did not return on suspicion that she had been abducted.

The spokesperson said that a case has been registered and an investigation has been started, in which it has been revealed that the minor was abducted by Shakeel alias Sonu, a resident of Poonch.

Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Shalindar Singh formed a special team headed by a sub-inspector to rescue the kidnapped minor, the official said.

He said that with the help of Poonch police, the team raided several places and rescued the girl from Shakeel’s house, who however managed to escape.

He said a board of doctors conducted a medical examination of the victim and the statement of the minor was recorded before a judicial magistrate.

The spokesman said that on the basis of the statement of the victim, offences under section 376 of the IPC (rape) and section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act were established and immediately added to the case.

He said the girl was reunited with her family after the legal process was completed.

The police team finally arrested the accused from the Belicharan area of ​​Jammu district, the spokesperson said, adding that Shakeel was already married to a woman from Pauni (Reasi) and was released sometime back.

Police are being regularly briefed to remain sensitive towards crime against women especially minors, the SSP said.
