Man Held Over 2 Months After Rape Victim’s Body Was Found In Shop In Delhi

Mumbai: A 32-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping and killing a 14-year-old girl in Delhi’s Narela on February 12, police said.

He said that the accused has been identified as Sunil, a resident of the Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh.

Police said a case of kidnapping was registered on February 15 on the complaint of the girl’s father, a resident of a village in Narela.

On February 19, a man named Rahul Rai, who runs a business making nail polish bottle caps in the same village, told the police that when he came back from Jhansi and opened his shop, a foul smell was coming from inside.

Rai told the police that a labourer named Sunil, who worked with him, was also missing.

The police searched the shop where the partially decomposed body of the girl was found under a pile of cow dung kept in sacks, the official said.

During the investigation, a man named Ram Sache alias Sachin was arrested on February 20 from the outskirts of the village when he was trying to escape to Mumbai, police said.

Police said that during interrogation it was found that he along with Sunil consumed alcohol in Metro Vihar on February 12 and planned to call the teenager.

Police said the accused called the girl, raped her and then strangled her to death.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (External North) Brijendra Kumar Yadav said that later the police got information that Sunil would come to meet someone and accordingly laid a trap.

On seeing the accused on Tuesday, the police asked him to stop but he kept on running. The DCP told that the police asked him to surrender, but the accused took out a pistol and opened fire on the police.

Yadav said that the police also opened fire and a bullet hit his leg, after which he was apprehended.

Police said the accused confessed that he, along with Sache, raped and killed the girl and dumped the body in the shop.
