Man Rapes Live-In Partner & Forces Her To Change Religion In UP, Held

Mumbai: Police arrested a 30-year-old woman’s live-in partner for allegedly raping and coercing her into changing her religion in UP’s Greater Noida.

As per reports, officials of Bisrakh police station have registered a case against the arrested accused under the Prohibition of Illegal Conversions Ordinance, 2020.

A police spokesperson said, “The accused Murtaza alias Mrityunjay (33) is a resident of Moradabad district of western UP and was residing in a rented house in Bisrakh area. The accused and the complainant were in a live-in relationship.”

“When the woman insisted on her for marriage, the man forced her to convert, after which she approached the police with rape and attempted forced conversion,” the spokesperson said.

The FIR registered at the Bisrakh police station also alleges Indian Penal Sections 323 (causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 376 (rape), 406 (criminal breach of trust) against the accused, the police said. Further legal proceedings have been initiated and will be completed soon, DCP Shukla added.

The complainant claimed that she worked in a pharmaceutical company, wherein 2019 she met the accused, who was called ‘Mrityunjay’ by colleagues as per the FIR.

She claimed, “Eventually we both became friends and later decided to get married and hence started living together. One day, she suddenly found his Aadhar card at home which had his name ‘Murtaza’ written on it.”

“When confronted with searches, he told her that he had nothing to do with Murtaza or Mrityunjay and threatened her. Then he blackmailed her by showing her objectionable pictures and videos,” according to the FIR.

The woman claimed she had also met his parents once who too insisted on her converting her religion for the marriage. She further claimed that she had helped the man with around Rs 2.50 lakh over the years, the FIR stated.
