Mumbai: A 75-year-old man suffering from depression allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence in Mohan Garden area, PTI reported.
Police said Kumar was depressed and undergoing treatment at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for the last five-six months.
He said that on Wednesday at around 10.30 am, Kumar’s family was reported to have committed suicide.
A senior police officer said that upon reaching the spot, Kumar was found hanging from a cloth fan in a room on the ground floor of the building.
His family members told police that on Tuesday night, Kumar slept in a room on the ground floor, while his wife and other family members slept in the second floor of the three-story building, he said.
The officer said family members came to know about the suicide on Wednesday morning when they entered through a window in the room.
Police said Kumar is survived by his wife Lakshmi Devi and three children, one of whom lives in Mumbai, while two others live with Kumar.
So far, no game of dishonesty has been suspected, he said, adding that the body has been sent for autopsy.
