Mandhana Becomes First Indian Woman Cricketer To Smash A Hundred In Pink-Ball Test

Mumbai: India Women opener Smriti Mandhana has become the first-ever Indian woman cricketer to smash a hundred in a pink-ball Test. The 25-year-old reached a three-figure mark off 170 deliveries in the first innings of India Women’s first-ever Day-Night.

The historic century was also the first in the career of Mandhana who had never reached the triple-digit figure in the longest format before.

This is the first time for Indian women that they are playing a test match under lights. Actually, this is also the second pink ball test played in women’s cricket.

A little luck of Smriti was also in his favour. On the second ball of the 46th over, she was caught on a no-ball. Then on the 5th ball of the 52nd over, she reached the historic point.

Mandhana now also holds the record for being the Indian woman with the highest individual score across all formats in Australia. In ODIs, Smriti’s highest score is 102 and in T20Is, the highest score in Down Under is 66 against Australian Women.

She ended the first day against Australia on an unbeaten 80 after the rain was interrupted at the Queensland Oval. Play on the second day started 30 minutes early to make up for the time lost on the first day.

Smriti and her fellow opener Shafali Verma gave India an explosive start on day one, with the former scoring at a strike rate of over 100 in the opening part of his innings. The pair put on a 93-run partnership before Shafali was dismissed for 31.

After this, Poonam Raut was brought in place of Shafali, who has done a great job in supporting Mandhana in the middle. After already contributing 86 runs for the second wicket, the pair is moving towards a 100-run partnership.
