Manipur Bypolls: BJP Wins One Seat, Leads In Two

Mumbai: Officials said that BJP candidate Oynam Lukhoi Singh won the by-election for Manipur’s Wangoi seat, while the saffron party’s candidates were ahead of two other constituencies and independents from one.

According to the ECI website, Singh won the Wangoi seat by defeating his nearest rival Khuraizam Loken Singh of the National People’s Party.

BJP candidates Paunam Brozen Singh and Nhamthang Haokip were ahead of Wangjing Tentha and Saitu by 1,560 and 2,799 votes.

Independent candidate Y Antas Khan was leading over his nearest Independent rival Mohammad Abdul Nasser by 3,078 votes.

The by-elections were necessary on November 7 after the Congress MLAs from these four seats resigned from the assembly and joined the ruling BJP.

The BJP contested three seats and supported one independent candidate in Lilong, while the Congress fielded candidates in all four constituencies.
