Manipur Imposes Night Curfew From 7 pm To 5 am Amid COVID-19 Surge

Mumbai: The Manipur government has imposed a night curfew in the state from 7 pm to 5 am amid rising COVID-19 cases. The state government has also banned all gatherings with immediate effect and placed a guest limit for events like funerals and marriages.

The order issued by Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar stated that the consultative Committee of COVID-19 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday decided that night curfew will be imposed in the state from 7 pm to 5 am in view of the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.

The order does not say how long the night curfew will remain in force.

It added that media personnel and those engaged in telecom services and essential services would be exempted from the curfew.

In the meeting, it was decided to ban all the gatherings with immediate effect except for unavoidable ceremonies like funerals, marriages. Such gatherings will be strictly limited to 20 persons, with COVID appropriate behaviour such as ensuring that the host is wearing a mask.

The order also said deputy commissioners and state police should enforce COVID appropriate behaviour and impose a penalty on violators.
