Mumbai: In a remarkable display of talent and determination, India’s Thulasimathi Murugesan won a silver medal in the women’s singles SU5 category at the Paris Paralympics. Thulasimathi, who has been a standout performer throughout the tournament, faced China’s Xia Qui Yang in the final, ultimately succumbing 17-21, 10-21 to claim the silver.
Thulasimathi’s journey to the final was nothing short of impressive. Her semifinal match was an all-Indian affair, where she squared off against compatriot Manisha Ramadass. Thulasimathi once again showcased her dominance, winning in straight sets with a score of 21-15, 21-7.
Meanwhile, Manisha Ramadass added to India’s medal tally by clinching the bronze medal after defeating Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren in a convincing 21-12, 21-8 victory. This triumph not only underscored her resilience after the semifinal loss but also solidified India’s strong presence in the women’s singles SU5 category.
Earlier this year, Thulasimathi, along with her doubles partner Manasi Joshi, had also clinched a silver medal at the BWF World Para Badminton Championships in Thailand, further establishing herself as a prominent figure in para badminton.
