Maratha Protest : High Alert In Pune; Internet Disconnect Next

Mumbai: The protest turn violent in the Chandani Chowk and Kothrude in Pune. The protesters interrupted the road traffic, threw stones at police after which the police has to lathi charge to stop the violence.

The schools and colleges has announce holiday yesterday. But however, the mob attacked the hotels and  district collector office. Internet services were suspended in Maharashtra’s Pune district to prevent rumour-mongering in view of the Maratha quota agitation.

Internet services were temporarily suspended in Baramati, Shirur, Khed, Junnar, Maval, Bhor and Daund rural tehsils of the district. The step was taken to prevent any untoward incident after violent protests.

Protesters halted buses and other vehicles on roads in Latur, Jalna, Solapur and Buldhana districts. Similar protest was seen in Nasik,  Bhuldhana, and Solapur districts. Thereis a rally contacted by Marathas by bikes with slogan ‘ek Maratha Lakh Maratha’.

Pro-quota Maratha protesters stormed into I-T offices in Pune, threatened employees as the reservation protests took a violent turn on Thursday. The protesters pelted stones and asked employees to leave the premises and pelted stones.

In Nagpur, protesters from the Maratha community tried to block the Mankapur Ring Road. They also attempted to stop a train but failed after the Railway Protection Force intervened. However, police teams have been deployed.

In Mumbai, scores of protesters demanding reservation gathered outside the city collector’s office in Bandra which causes traffic havock. The Marathas blindfolded themselves with black ribbon and continue the protest with bilding signs and slogans.

The roads in Ahmednagar have been blocked by protesters. The state transport services has been suspended in Osmanabad, Satara and Bhuldhana district.

The government has deployed six companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF), one company each of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) at sensitive locations.

Navi Mumbai, which saw widespread violence during a similar bandh last month, has been excluded from the protest. Transportation services were affected across the state but situation remained normal in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

Schools and Colleges Remain Open in Mumbai  Schools and colleges remain open in Mumbai during the bandh. BMC has also not declared a holiday for schools. Some private schools however, remained shut.

Supply of vegetables has been hit across the state because of the Maharashtra bandh and the wholesale vegetable market in Dadar has been shut for the day.

Sakal Maratha Samaj, an umbrella body of Maratha groups, has called for a ‘bandh’ across Maharashtra, except Navi Mumbai which had witnessed large-scale violence last month during protests by the community.

Although, the whole Maharashtra was silent, shops were closed, schools, colleges and offices remained shut as the bandh was declared. The places which became violent have now witnessing the peace.
