Maratha Reservations: Maha Bandh Excluding Navi Mumbai And Thane

Mumbai: The Marathas have called a Maharashtra Bandh on 9 August as to seek reservation demand for their own community in education and government jobs. The schools, industrial units of several companies will remain closed.

The Savitri bai Phule University, Pune Municipal Corporation, will be given holiday as it is in the umbrella of Pune and Nasik where it is said to have more risk. The police have stalled 4000 rioters from going to rampage in Chakan, Pune. Chakan is seen to be major hit. Therefore, the industries have been shut for the day.

“There are over 1,000 companies in the Chakan MIDC area and majority of them have decided keep their plants and firms shut tomorrow (August 8). The morcha members have said that a sit-in agitation will be held at one place in Chakan,” Chakan Police Station’s Senior Inspector Santosh Girigosavi told PTI.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil said that a special meeting was held at Chakan to ensure that the bandh took place peacefully. “For the bandobast, 2200 policemen, 900 home guards, three Special Reserve Force company, one Rapid Action Force company and 20 striking platoons have been deployed,” he said.

Regarding Mumbai, Maharashtra bandh is excluded Navi Mumbai and Thane. The High court on 6 August warned Maratha community that the protest should not harm the common commuters and other people.
