Mary Kom Wins 8th World C’ships Medal, Becomes Most Successful Boxer

Mumbai: MC Mary Kom (51 kg) clinched bronze medal at the World Women’s Boxing Championships after losing to Turkey’s Busenaz Cakiroglu in an intense semi-final match on Saturday.

She has won World Championships gold six times, along with a silver medal.

Mary Kom seeded third, lost 1–4 to Cakiroglu, who is the European Championship and European Games gold medalist.

The Indian team demanded a review of the decision, but the appeal was turned down by the Technical Committee of the International Boxing Association (AIBA).

Despite this loss, it was a spectacular campaign for the 36-year-old Mary Kom and joins her long list of achievements. This bronze is his first world medal in the 51kg category.

In addition to six world titles, Mary Kom’s incredible career includes Olympic bronze medals (2012), five Asian titles, gold medals at the Asian Games and several other international top finals.
