Mayawati Urges Centre To Bring Law On MSP In The Upcoming Parliament Session

In a major move, Prime Minister Modi on Friday announced the repealing of the three-farm law

Mumbai: Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Friday reacted to PM Narendra Modi announcing the withdrawal of the Centre’s three farm laws, saying that the farmers’ demand on MSP is “still pending”.

“Farmers’ sacrifice has paid off. The decision to repeal 3 farm laws should have been taken much before. Still, farmers’ demand for a law on MSP is pending. BSP demands that in the upcoming Parliament session the Centre should bring a law in this regard (on MSP),” BSP chief Mayawati told ANI.

Meanwhile, Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait had also said that the government has many other issues of farmers to discuss along with MSP (Minimum Support Price).

In a tweet, he said, “Along with the MSP, the government should also discuss other issues of farmers.”

In a stunning announcement on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and has decided to repeal all three agricultural reform laws that have sparked almost a year of massive protests by farmers.

The three contentious farm laws -Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; (2) Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020; and (3)Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 was enacted by the Parliament in September 2020.

Since November 2020, thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been camping outside Delhi, demanding that the laws be withdrawn. There had been several rounds of talks between the farmer leaders and the Centre but the impasse remained.
