Mirabai Stands A Chance To Get Olympics Gold As Winner To Undergo Dope Test: Reports

Mumbai: Indian Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won the silver medal in the women’s 49kg event at Tokyo Olympics, stands a chance to win the gold medal. China’s Hou Zhihui, who won the gold in the category, has reportedly been asked to stay back in Tokyo for a dope test.

A source close to the developments told ANI, “She has been asked to stay in Tokyo and the test will be done. The test is definitely happening.”

China’s Zhihui Hou on Saturday won the gold medal with a total of 210kg and set a new Olympic record.

The rules clearly state, if an athlete fails a doping test, the athlete who wins silver will be awarded gold.

Mirabai Chanu started the medal tally for India by winning a silver medal in the women’s 49kg category at the Tokyo International Forum on Saturday.

During her four successful attempts at the competition, Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk).

China’s Zhihui Hou set a new Olympic record, while Indonesia’s Windy Kentika Aisha won the bronze medal with a total of 194kg.
