Modi In Maldives: PM Receives Ceremonial Welcomed Republic Square

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday received a ceremonial in the Republic Square in Male on the arrival of the island nation as part of his first bilateral visit after the re-election.

Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was also present during the ceremony.

At this time, the delegation level talks are going on between the two countries. The two leaders are expected to exchange agreements and remote opening projects after the bilateral agreement.

Majlis Media Director Hassan Xiau said, “PM Modi’s official visit to the Maldives, especially in his parliament, reflects the importance of joining the Maldives with India, it shows good relations between the two countries.”

“I am confident that the visit of PM will further strengthen existing relations between India and Maldives, President of Parliament, former President Mohammed Nasheed and Member of Parliament PM Modi and his delegation are ready to welcome the People’s Majlis,” he added.

Modi is scheduled to meet Maldives Vice President Faisal Nasim at around 6:00 pm (local time) and Majlis (Parliament of Maldives) with speaker Mohammad Nasheed at 6:30 pm (local time).

Taking to Twitter after receiving PM Modi, Shahid said that this “momentous visit” would elevate the Indian-Maldivian relationship to new heights.

“Great Honour to receive PM Shri @narendramodi at Velana International Airport on his first State Visit overseas after taking oath for a second term. No doubt, this will be a momentous visit that would elevate #Maldives #India relationship to new heights.”

Modi will also visit Sri Lanka on 9th June at the invitation of President Matripla Sirisena, the first visit of a foreign leader to the fateful Easter Sunday terror attacks that killed more than 250 people on April 21.
