MP Govt Includes Ramayana, Mahabharata In Rngineering Syllabus

Mumbai: Madhya Pradesh government has decided to include Ramayana and Mahabharata in engineering syllabus, as per state’s Higher Education Department.

Higher Education Department, in an announcement has shared that Ramayana, Mahabharata & Ramcharitmanas has been included in the syllabus of engineering students. Speaking on the decision, MP Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav pointed out that there was nothing wrong in it.

“Whoever wants to learn about Lord Ram’s character & contemporary works can do so in engineering courses,” he told reporters. He further added that the steps were taken within the purview of the new National Education Policy.

“Teachers of our study board have prepared the syllabus under the NEP 2020… If we can bring our glorious history forward, no one should have any issue with it,” the Higher Education Minister said. Details of the nature of the additions is not clear at the moment.

Madhya Pradesh is one of states that has started working on introducing NEP 2020 in school as well as higher education. Among the other suggestion, engineering education in regional languages has also been proposed by NEP 2020. This suggestion, though implemented by a few, has met with both resistance as well as challenge. The introduction of Indian epics in the technical education is sure to raise a few eyebrows.

While this may come as a surprise to many, the educational institutions have been off late seen to push the Indian epics. Last year Jawaharlal Nehru University, JNU organized a much publicized and successful leadership series from lesson on Ramayana. Many scholars have also supported the decision to include ancient texts for varied reasons.
