Mumbai: BMC To Float Global Tender To Procure COVID-19 Vaccines

Mumbai: BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) now will float a global tender to acquire one crore COVID19 vaccine doses for the Maharashtra capital city.

The decision came a day after Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope announced that vaccination drive for the 18-44 age group was being suspended in the state, including Mumbai, due to a shortage of vaccine.

He said that the vaccine supplements currently available with the state would be used to vaccinate people 45 and older as administering the second jab of these people is a priority.

To procure vaccines from foreign manufacturers to meet the demand for vaccine amid the fierce second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the governments of Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha have moved towards growth.

However, many states and UTs have mentioned the acute shortage of vaccine doses amid the second wave and have decided to prioritise available stocks to administer the second dose to the 45+ population.
