Mumbai Rains: 54 Flights Diverted, 5 Trains Short Terminated, 18 People Died In Malad

Mumbai: Mumbai is facing a major disaster due to heavy rains in the city, Chief Spice jet aircraft from Jaipur to Mumbai airport overhauled the runway during landing here. An alternate runway has been turned on, but authorities said there will be a delay and variety of flights at the airport.

“SpiceJet SG 6237 Jaipur-Mumbai flight overshot runway yesterday while landing at Mumbai Airport. All passengers are safe, no injuries reported,” Mumbai Airport PRO said. No injuries were reported.

An airport official said that about 54 flights were diverted to nearby airports and 52 flights were canceled as heavy rains continued in Mumbai and its neighboring areas.

Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesman said, “The main runway is closed at the airport but the optional runway is functional. There are delays and diversities of flights.”

The Central Railway informed that suburban services are running normally between Churchgate and Vasai Road.

“As the water receded to some extent at Nallasopara, WR locals are being run with a frequency of 30 mins between Vasai Rd-Virar. Services are running normally between Churchgate- Vasai Rd. AC local will not be run today.,” Central Railway tweeted.

The Maharashtra Government has declared July 2 as a public holiday amid heavy downpour causing water logging at various places in the financial capital and surrounding metropolitan area.

At least 21 people have died due to various accidents related to rains in Mumbai including 18 people who were killed as a wall collapsed in Malad area.

“Pained to know about the loss of lives in Malad Wall Collapse incidence. My thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones & prayers for speedy recovery of injured. ₹5 lakh will be given to the kin of deceased,” CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted saying.
