Mumbai Rains: IAF Helicopter Deployed To Rescue 35 Stranded In Thane

Mumbai: The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday deployed a helicopter to rescue around 35 people trapped in a village in Thane district of Maharashtra, an official said.

Thane deputy collector Shivaji Patil said that people were submerged in their houses in Zu-Nandkhuri village near Khadavali in Kalyan taluka from 10 in the morning.

“One Mi 17 helicopter has been launched by IAF from Santacruz (in Mumbai) on request of the state government towards the rescue of 35 residents of the village,” a defence official said.

Patil said that all efforts are being made to get the stranded people to a safe place.

With Bhatsa river, many villages in Kalyan taluka and its surroundings had flooded, they said that the Zu-Nandkhuri village was the worst affected.

“Thank you Indian Air Force for the quick help and safely rescuing 56 villagers from Khadavali in Thane district,” CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted saying.
