Mumbai To Get Its Own ‘Mumbai Eye’, Giant Ferris Wheelinspired By London Eye

Mumbai: The dream of a giant Ferris wheel gracing the Mumbai skyline, akin to the iconic London Eye, is closer to becoming a reality. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has given the green light to the ambitious “Mumbai Eye” project in its annual budget.
A Landmark in the Making
The BMC announced that the “Mumbai Eye” will be developed at a suitable location in the city under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This long-anticipated project has faced multiple delays over the years but now appears set to move forward.
Inspired by the London Eye, this landmark attraction was first proposed by the Shiv Sena in 2008. The Ferris wheel will offer visitors a panoramic bird’s-eye view of Mumbai, adding a new dimension to the city’s tourist appeal.
Past Plans and Challenges
In 2022, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had put forward a proposal to construct the Mumbai Eye at the Bandra Reclamation promenade. However, strong opposition from local residents led to the plan being shelved.
With renewed backing from the BMC, the project now holds fresh promise. While the exact location is yet to be finalized, officials remain optimistic about identifying a viable site that balances accessibility and environmental considerations.
The Mumbai Eye is expected to become a major attraction, offering breathtaking views of the city and enhancing its global profile. As the project moves ahead, stakeholders are keen on ensuring it integrates seamlessly with Mumbai’s evolving urban landscape.
