Muslim Man Forced To Engrave ‘Om’ Symbol With Hot Metal, Court’s Next Hearing On Monday

Mumbai: An complaint was filed by a Muslim prisoner name Shabbir Alias Nabbir of Tihar jail alleging that he was beaten by the Tihar Jail Jailers and had branded a symbol of Om on his back with a hot rod.

Family of the prisoner went to Karkardoom Court saying their son’s life is in danger in the jail.

When Shabbir was brought before magistrate Richa Parashar, a symbol of om engraved on his back was found.
He is been in Tihar jail since November 2017 and aged 35years.

Shabbir raised a complaint of 12th April against official Rajesh Chauhan who has beaten him behind the closed doors with few other officials.

Rajesh took a metal with Om symbol, heated it and engraved it on Shabbir’s back when he was not satisfied after beating him.

Shabbir said that this anger came after when Shabbir told Rajesh that stove in their barracks was not working and after getting irritated with Shabbir, Rajesh broke out his anger engraving Om behind his back.

“You Muslims have destroyed Our Country, was the words from Rajesh”, told Shabbir.

A hearing was set up on April 17 in court wherein the courtroom itself, Shabbir showed the Om symbol in his back.

Court has ordered for CCTV footage and to take statements of other prisoners as well.

Also, the Court has ordered to examine Shabbir medically and to remove from the superintendent of Rajesh Chauhan “Directly or Indirectly”.

Shabbir has prisoned on charge The Arms Act as Country-made arms were found with him.
