My Character Assassination Is Being Done: Allu Arjun On ‘Pushpa 2’ Stampede

Hyderabad: Hours after being mentioned in the Telangana Legislative Assembly regarding his behavior following a tragic stampede at Sandhya 70 MM cinema hall, actor Allu Arjun addressed the media to share his side of the story. The incident claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman and left her eight-year-old son battling for his life in a hospital.

Flanked by his father and a lawyer during a press conference, Mr. Arjun condemned what he called an act of “character assassination” and termed the tragedy an unfortunate accident. “This is an unfortunate accident, and it is nobody’s fault. Everyone, including the police and myself, acted with positive intentions,” he stated. He extended his condolences to the victim’s family and wished the injured child a speedy recovery, adding that he has been receiving hourly updates on the child’s condition.

Actor Denounces Misinformation

Addressing the allegations and the narrative around the incident, the actor described the situation as being clouded by misinformation and miscommunication. “There has been an attempt at character assassination. Despite the success of the film, we have cancelled all celebratory events to focus on the issue,” he said.

Mr. Arjun clarified his role in the events leading to the stampede, noting that he had been asked to wave to the crowd in an effort to disperse the gathering. “It was not a roadshow; I was asked to wave to the fans so that they disperse, which I did out of respect for those waiting to see me. Had I known there was no permission, I would have turned back,” he explained.

Timeline of Events

The actor stated that no police officer approached him while he was watching the film at the cinema. He only became aware of the overcrowding situation when alerted by his team and decided to leave the venue immediately. “It was only the next day that I learned of the incident involving the death of a woman and an eight-year-old being hospitalised,” he said.

Regarding his absence at the hospital, Mr. Arjun said his team advised against visiting the injured child and grieving family due to the circumstances. He also revealed that a case had been filed against him, which further complicated the situation.

A Call for Compassion

Concluding the press conference, Mr. Arjun reiterated his sorrow over the tragedy and requested that the focus remain on supporting the affected family and addressing the underlying issues. “This is a time for compassion, not blame,” he said, urging everyone to avoid further misinformation and speculation.

The incident has sparked a significant debate in the state, with calls for a detailed investigation into the safety arrangements and crowd management at public events.
