NCP Chief Cancels All Public Events Amid COVID Surge In Maharashtra

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday said he has cancelled all his public programmes due to rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and an appeal made by CM Uddhav Thackeray.

On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 6,971 new coronovirus cases, leading to the state’s infection of 21,00,884.

According to official figures, the state on Sunday reported 35 fatal incidents due to COVID-19, taking the toll to 51,788.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday that religious, social and political gatherings will be banned in the state in view of the increasing COVID-19 cases.

Pawar, in a tweet, said, “I have cancelled all my scheduled public programmes in view of the rise in COVID-19 cases and the appeal made by the honourable chief minister and deputy chief minister.”

Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant have also cancelled his public event scheduled in Mumbai on Monday.
