NCP Leader Baba Siddique Passes Away After Being Shot At In Mumbai
Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique was shot dead in Bandra on Saturday evening. Lilavati Hospital confirmed to CNBC-TV18 that Siddique succumbed to his injuries after being shot three times in the chest.
The Nirmal Nagar police have detained two suspects in connection with the shooting, which occurred as Siddique was reportedly involved in a real estate dispute. The person accompanying Siddique was also injured in the attack. However, authorities have yet to confirm the exact motive behind the incident.
“Two to three rounds were fired. Further probe is underway as teams have rushed to the area,” an official told PTI.
Siddique, who had joined the NCP from the Congress in 2023, was a prominent figure in the political landscape of Maharashtra. His death comes just weeks before the state is expected to hold its assembly elections.
This is the second high-profile political killing in Maharashtra this year, following the murder of former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar in February.
Further updates on the investigation are awaited.
