NCP’s Ajit Pawar To Be Leader Of Opposition In Maharashtra Assembly

Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Deputy CM and NCP leader Ajit Pawar will be the new Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly. As per reports, the decision was proposed by NCP Legislative party leader Jayant Patil and approved by the Assembly.

After the setback to the NCP Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray camp, now the opposition in the Maharashtra government will proceed with all the strategies.

Sharad Pawar held a meeting with NCP leaders yesterday along with Jayant Patil, Ajit Pawar. The opposition wanted a senior leader of the party to become the face of the opposition.

Meanwhile, the new Eknath Shinde-led government won the floor test by a margin of 164–99, proving his government’s majority and cementing his position as chief minister of the state and leader of the Shiv Sena.

NCP legislature party leader Jayant Patil had proposed Pawar’s name for the LoP, which was approved by the assembly, informed the principal secretary of the assembly.

164 votes were cast in favour of Shinde, while 99 were against the newly formed BJP-Shinde camp alliance.

The trust vote comes a day after BJP’s Rahul Narvekar was elected Speaker of the Assembly. On Sunday, Narvekar reinstated Shinde as the leader of the Sena’s legislature party and also recognized the appointment of Gogavale as the chief whip of the Shiv Sena.

Today’s floor test was held during the special two-day session of the Legislative Assembly that began on Sunday.

A total of three members abstained from voting.
