Nearly 40,000 Indian Nationals Stranded In The US Registered To Return Home

Mumbai: Nearly 40,000 Indian Nationals living in the US have registered their names on returning India through Vande Bharat Mission.

Indian ambassador to the US on Tuesday said that around 5,000 people have been sent back via 16 flights in the first two phases of Vande Bharat Mission. 

“In the first phase, we went in a very scientific way. We created a special site on which we got the total numbers. And this is an emergency evacuation flight. So based on the requirements of them going back, the first two phases, 16 flights, 5,000 people have gone”, said Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Indian Ambassador to the US.

Vande Bharat’s operation in the US had started on 7th May. Currently, the third phase of the mission will begin on 11th June. Bookings for the phase can be done by registering into the Embassy site.

Pointing out the Civil aviation’s decision on commercial flights, Singh said that decision to repatriate Indians from other nations will be based on international requirements and health situation in India, to allow international flights in.
