New Zealand Declared COVID-free, All Set To Lift Restrictions

Mumbai: New Zealand has declared itself COVID-free since no cases have been reported in the country in the last 17 days.

New Zealand had reported its first Covid-19 case on 28th February and had declared lockdown on 25th March. The last Covid-19 patients- a  woman in the 50s was recovered and released from the isolation. The woman had suffered the symptoms for the last 10 days.

New Zealand, with a 5 million population, has had less than 1,500 Covid-19 cases and 22 deaths.

Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern said that New Zealand will lift its lockdown returning to a normal life. She further said that the government would not let down its guard over the virus and promised to rebuild the economy that has slowed in the wake of the global pandemic.

“We have eliminated the transmission of the virus for now. While the job is not done. This is a milestone,” she said.
