Nearly a week after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) split in the Bihar Assembly, Nitish Kumar took over as the CM of Bihar, winning 125 seats – more than half of the 122 in the Bihar Assembly. The results were announced on 10 November, after counting the votes held at midnight. The counting of votes was delayed as the Election Commission implemented the stringent Kovid-19 protocol for conducting elections and at all counting centers.

Along with Nitish Kumar, BJP leaders Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi were also sworn in as deputies. Nitish Kumar’s longtime deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi of the BJP is unlikely to take the oath of office on Wednesday. The speculation is that the BJP is considering elevating Sushil Modi to a role at the central level.
