Assembly Election 2021

No CAA In Assam If Congress Voted To Power: Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Friday that if Congress comes to power, it will stop the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state.

Addressing a talk in Dibrugarh, Lahowal in the state, Gandhi pulled up the BJP at the centre in protest against the decline in democracy, rising unemployment among youth, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and farm laws.

Referring to the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological patron of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said one force from Nagpur is trying to control the entire country.

“You think democracy is declining. The youth are unemployed, the farmers are protesting, the CAA is there. The question is what is India? People from different cultures, languages, religions build India. We can’t ask the people of Assam to forget their culture, history and language if they come to Delhi. The day we say this, the idea of India ends. One force, born in Nagpur, trying to control the whole country,” Gandhi said.

Gandhi urged the youth to actively participate in politics and fight for the state when they feel that the state is being looted by an external force. He said that democracy should mean controlling Assam with the voice of Assam.

Democracy means that the voice of Assam should control Assam. If we do not include students, there cannot be a democracy. The youth should actively participate in politics and fight for Assam when you feel that the state is being looted. You have to fight with love rather than stones and sticks,” he said.

Gandhi also slammed the Prime Minister when one of the students said that PM Modi comes to the state only during elections. “During a flood, you can’t give him anything, so he doesn’t come but during elections, you can vote for him, so he comes,” he said.

The BJP spreads hatred, increases unemployment, while the Congress acts of hatred, Gandhi said during the talk, stressing that Congress’s focus in Assam is to fill vacant positions in government jobs, generate jobs, healthcare and education. Is to invest in the field of development, empowering tea gardens and youth.

The elections in 126 assembly seats in Assam will take place in three phases beginning from March 27 and ending on April 6. The result of the election is scheduled to be out on May 2.
