No Data To Suggest Serious Infection In Kids In Next COVID-19 Wave: AIIMS chief

Mumbai: AIIMS chief Dr Randeep Guleria on Tuesday said that there was no evidence to suggest that the next wave of COVID-19 will cause serious infection in children.

During the press conference on behalf of the Ministry of Health, AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria said that there is no observation of children being more affected by COVID-19 in any Indian or international data.

He added that even in the second wave, the infected children had mild illness or co-morbidities.

Dr Guleria dismissed the experts’ theory of  children being the prime target of future COVID waves and said, “I don’t think we will have a serious infection in children in the future.”

Meanwhile, Union Health Ministry Secretary Lav Agarwal confirmed that Indian has registered 86,498 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, seeing an almost 79 per cent decline in fresh cases since the highest reported peak.

“Our overall recovery rate stands at 94.3 per cent. 1,82,000 recoveries and a 4.62 per cent positivity rate were reported in the last 24 hours. 23.62 crore vaccine doses have been given till now,” added Agarwal.
