No Lockdown in Delhi: Health Minister Satyendar Jain amid COVID-19 surge

Jain also mentioned that at least 5,500 new cases may come to Delhi today, the positivity rate being 8.5%.

Talking to reporters, he said that experts have been saying that the credit for the increase in Covid cases in Delhi should be largely attributed to the Omron variant.

Jain said that on Monday, Delhi had recorded 4,099 cases and one death due to COVID with a positivity rate of 6.46 per cent.

When asked about the new restrictions, Jain said that in view of the increasing cases of Kovid, a weekend curfew is being imposed and it should not be considered as a lockdown.

The minister said that the weekend curfew has been imposed as there has not been much activity during that two-day period and there is no need to panic.

Also, COVID-induced restrictions are being imposed with due sensitivity about the situation of laborers, Jain said in response to a question.
