No Matter How Much Modi Or Bhagwat Dream, Will Never Let Reservation End: Rahul Gandhi

Congress General Secretary Mukul Wasnik said that his party disagreed with the Supreme Court verdict

Mumbai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that BJP and RSS are against reservation ” and the progress of scheduled castes/tribes and other backward castes in the country.

“BJP and RSS ideology is against reservation”. They never want SC / ST to progress. They are breaking the institutional structure. Gandhi told reporters here, I want to tell the SC, ST, OBC and Dalits that we will never let the reservation come to an end, no matter how much Modi Ji or Mohan Bhagwat dreams.

Heid this in the context of the arguments of the Uttarakhand government in the Supreme Court, which dealt with the issue of the state government’s duty to provide reservation in promotions in government jobs.

On Sunday, the Congress party asked the BJP to clear its stand on reservations for Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes (Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes) in government jobs and promotions.

The Congress party also questioned the recent decision of the Supreme Court in which the apex court said that state governments are not obliged to give quota to SC, ST or OBC in promotion and jobs in the state government.

“Reservation pinches their [BJP’s] DNA. The real issue is that the RSS and BJP cannot stand the idea that the ST/SCs have been given reservation”>reservation. The legal counsel on behalf of the Uttarakhand government had put forth these arguments in the court,” Gandhi said.

“The Uttarakhand government has taken a stand that state governments are not obliged to give reservation in promotion”. Congress spokesman Dr. Udit Raj said that the Center had earlier gone to challenge the decision of the Delhi High Court stating that the reservation “should not apply to the promotion. The Center is still pursuing that matter in the Supreme Court.”

On Friday, the Supreme Court had said that reservation in promotion of government jobs is not a fundamental right in relation to a matter related to the BJP-ruled Uttarakhand government.
