No One Else Needs To Apply Now: Gavaskar As Dravid Applies For India Head Coach Job

Mumbai: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that he doesn’t think anyone else needs to apply for the Team India head coach job after reports came in that Rahul Dravid has applied for the position.

While no details have been revealed about the rest of the contestants, Dravid’s impressive coaching resume has given him the edge, with Gavaskar calling his application a mere ‘formalism’.

“Without a doubt. I don’t think anyone else even needs to apply anymore. The way he has handled the Under-19 team, give them direction, the manner in which he has worked at the NCA, just shows his capability… not only inside the ground but out of it as well. He is good at administrative duties too; he has that capability. And that is why I think him applying for the post is just a formality,” Gavaskar told Sports Tak.

Last week, reports emerged that Dravid is set to become India’s next coach after Shastri’s tenure ends at the end of the T20 World Cup; However, in a recent interview, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly revealed that Dravid had met him to talk about the NCA.

But those statements were rubbished when media agencies reported on Tuesday that Dravid had officially applied for the post.
