No Quota For Maratha Community In Education And Jobs In Maharashtra: Supreme Court

Mumbai: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed that no quota should be given to the Maratha community in education and jobs in the state this year and heard a petition challenging the constitutional validity of Maharashtra law granting Maratha reservation in education and jobs to a larger bench.

A bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao said in its interim order that Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Arvind Bobde would later decide a larger bench and its structure for hearing the case related to Maratha reservation.

The bench said that there would be no Maratha quota for jobs and admission for the session 2020-21 and said that there would be no change in admission to postgraduate courses in the state.

The bench was hearing two appeals in which J Laxman Rao Patil filed a petition challenging the Bombay High Court order that the constitutional validity of the quota for the Maratha community in education and government jobs in the state was upheld .
