No Visa For Foreign Students, Including Indians: US Government

Mumbai: The United States has stated that it will not renew the visas of foreign students studying there if their class is completely online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said in a statement, “Nonimmigrant F-1 and M-1 students attending schools operating entirely online may not take a full online course load and remain in the United States.”

“Students currently active in the United States should depart the country enrolled in such programs or take other measures, such as transferring a person to a school with instruction to remain in a legal position,” ICE emphasized.

The immigration department further stated that if such students choose not to leave, they may have to face immigration proceedings.

In particular, this order relates to those F1 students who are doing academic courses and M1 students who are doing ‘vocational research’.

While the new order forces foreign students to take immediate action, most American colleges and universities have also not announced their plans for the fall semester.
