Noida Woman Served Chicken Biryani Instead of Veg During Navratri, Restaurant Staff Booked After Social Media Outcry

Mumbai: The Uttar Pradesh Police have initiated action against a restaurant’s staff after a woman alleged she was served chicken biryani instead of the vegetarian dish she ordered during the Navratri festival — a period of religious fasting and vegetarianism for many Hindus.

The incident came to light after the woman, identified as Chhaya Sharma, posted a video on social media claiming that she had ordered a vegetarian biryani through food delivery platform Swiggy, but was instead delivered chicken biryani by a restaurant named Lakhnavi Kabab Paratha. The delivery reportedly took place on April 4.

In the video, which quickly went viral, Sharma expressed shock and distress, stating that she is a “pure vegetarian” and had unknowingly eaten “two to three spoonfuls” before realizing the dish contained meat. She accused the restaurant of deliberately sending non-vegetarian food during Navratri.

Sharma also alleged that when she tried to contact the restaurant to report the error, the outlet was closed and her calls went unanswered.

The video triggered widespread outrage on social media, with users voicing concern over food safety, religious sentiments, and negligence during important festivals. While many demanded strict action against the restaurant and Swiggy, others questioned the decision to order from a non-vegetarian outlet during Navratri.

Following the viral video and public backlash, the police booked the restaurant staff under relevant sections, and further investigation is underway.

Swiggy has not released an official statement on the matter as of yet.
