Not Criticizing Govt, But Need A Strategy To Lift The Lockdown: Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai: Addressing the online press conference on COVID19 pandemic, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi avoided criticizing the government, but stressed the need to reopen the economy.

He reiterated what he had said during earlier conversations with the press and public thinkers.

The Congress Lok Sabha MP said that the color-coded demarcation of geographical areas needs to be reconsidered, not that of the central government, based on input from the district and state administration.

“I do not want to criticize the government, the lockdown was necessary and it was done. There is no need for Gandhi to talk about the past.

Gandhi said traders and traders argue that the economic supply chain passes through the Red, Orange, and Green zones, which the country is demarcated to deal with the Kovid-19 outbreak.

He said that the government needed a strategy to ease the lockdown as a prolonged ban could lead to a major economic slowdown leading to unprecedented unemployment.

The Congress leader stressed the need for the district and states to decide on the demarcation of Red, Orange, and Green zones.

He said that state governments, including BJP-ruled states, have expressed apprehension that many districts have been wrongly color-coded and should be informed about the magnitude of the viral outbreak.

“This is not the time to criticize, we need a strategy to open a lockdown. Any trader will tell you that there is a conflict between the economic supply chain and the ‘red, orange, and green sectors that need to be resolved.”

The Congress leader said, “Therefore, there is a need to restart the economic lifeline and health care system in these areas.”

The former Congress president said that the government now needs to maintain some transparency on its work. “We need to understand what the criteria will be for its opening when a coronavirus-induced lockdown opens.”
