Nupur Sharma Moves SC Again, Says ‘Got Rape & Death Threats After SC Criticism

Mumbai: Suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma has moved the Supreme Court (SC) again to club the various FIRs filed against her over her remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

In a petition in the top court, Sharma sought protection from arrest in nine FIRs lodged against him, claiming that he was threatened with “rape with his life” following “unexpected and harsh criticism by the Supreme Court”.

Sharma has also sought a direction to club all FIRs registered against him across the country, stating that since the FIR was registered against him in Delhi, the cases registered elsewhere are related to the Delhi case.

The Supreme Court said it will hear Sharma’s plea tomorrow. Interestingly, the matter is listed before a bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and Surya Kant, who on July 1 reprimanded Sharma for his “disturbing” remarks against the Prophet.

The then BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma had created a big controversy by making controversial remarks about Prophet Mohammad during a TV debate. Sharma’s comments sparked riots across the country and several Gulf countries reacted sharply.

Earlier the Supreme Court had held her responsible for the “unfortunate” incident and violence in Udaipur. Her “loose tongue” has “set the entire country on fire” and she is “single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country”, the apex court said.
