Nusrat Claims Her Marriage Is Invalid, Says She Separated From Nikhil Long Back

Mumbai: TMC MP Nusrat Jahan has said her marriage to businessman Nikhil Jain is invalid as interfaith marriages require validation under the Special Marriage Act in India, which never happened.

Since the marriage was not legal, valid and sustainable, there is no question of divorce, she clarified. The Basirhat MP said, “We had parted away long back, but I didn’t talk about it because I wanted to keep my personal life to myself.”

Of late, speculations of a rift in the marriage intensified as reports claimed that Nushrat started dating fellow actor-politician Yash Dasgupta, who was the BJP candidate in the 2021 elections in Bengal.

While Nusrat’s statement clarified her stand on “marriage”, without naming Nikhil, she accused him of misusing her money. “who claims to be “rich” and “used by me”, has been taking money from my account by accessing my bank accounts illegally and by illegitimate means at odd hours of the night, even post-separation. I have already taken it to the concerned banking authority and will file a police complaint soon. Earlier on his request, the details of all the accounts of the family were handed over to him and I or any member of my family was not aware of any instructions given to the bank through our accounts. I am still battling it out with the bank & if need be, would release proof of the same,” the statement read. The MP also alleged that his family members have illegally held back her assets, the jewellery given to her by her patents.

Nusrat said, “I will never speak about my personal life or any person with whom I have no relation. So those who call themselves ‘ordinary people’ should not entertain anything that is not related to them.”

Actor-turned-politician Nusrat Jahan married businessman Nikhil Jain in Bodrum, Turkey in 2019, when she made her political debut by winning the Lok Sabha elections in the same year.

A reception was also held in Kolkata in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended. The wedding ceremony was performed in accordance with the Turkish Marriage Regulation, the MP clarified.

Nikhil Jain is a Kolkata-baed businessman and the duo met in Kolkata during an event, a year before they got married.
