Odisha Government Deploys 10,000 Security Personnel For Rath Jatra Of Lord Jagannath

Mumbai: Around 10,000 security personnel has been deployed in Odisha government for the annual Rath Jatra of Lord Jagannath which will be attended by lakhs of people on Thursday, a senior official said Wednesday.

The official said that on the day of Rath Yatra 10,000 strong forces have been deployed on the ground as a congregation of about 10 lakh devotees, while the Indian Navy and Coast Guard personnel patrol the sea.

142 platoon of Odisha police, about 1,000 officers of different ranks, 2,450 home guards, three RAF companies, two units of ODRAF, one unit NDRF, eight anti-squad teams besides three company OSAF, bomb disposal officer with sniffer told that Dogs have been deployed in Puri.

Two ADGP rank officers, five IGPs and 1,000 commandant rank officers will monitor the security arrangements. Soumendra Priyadarshi of IGP, Central Range said, “We are ready for any situation other than VVIP security.”

A mock drill was also organized to draw chariots for smooth and safe operation.

Mohapatra said besides the police, various government departments such as Health, Urban and Housing Development Department, Sanitation and others are doing their best to make this opportunity glorious.

The three deities – Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra’s chariots will be pulled by the devotees in the presence of lakhs of people on the grand road.
