One Dead, One Severely Injured As Truck Collides With Autorickshaw

Mumbai: One person died and another was severely hurt when a pick-up truck ran into two autorickshaws, their drivers who were standing near the vehicles, and two houses in Dahisar on Sunday.

The deceased and the injured have been identified as Raysaheb Ramchandra Yadav, 45, and Virendra Gupta, 30, respectively. Gupta sustained severe injuries on his hands and is undergoing treatment at Shatabdi Hospital.

Based on his complaint, the police have booked the driver under sections 304(a), 279, 337,338 and 427 of the IPC, besides several sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The incident took place around 4.30 am at Ganpat Patil Nagar. The truck which had the logo of a Shahpurbased NGO had, according to the police, been given on a subcontract and was on BMC duty at the time of the incident.

“Once the driver realised he had bumped into not just the parked vehicles and houses but also people, he fled from the spot immediately,” said Gupta’s brother-in-law.

There was panic among the residents of the area who came to the rescue of the two men immediately and rushed them to the hospital. Yadav was declared dead on arrival.
