Only A Mentally Disturbed Person Can Idolise Aurangzeb: UP CM Yogi

Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strongly criticized opposition parties and those who glorify Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, questioning their mental state and intent. Speaking at a media event titled Manthan: Kumbh and Beyond, organized by the RSS-affiliated weekly Organiser, Adityanath made sharp remarks regarding the controversial figure of Aurangzeb and his legacy.

His comments come in response to recent remarks made by Maharashtra Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi, which have sparked widespread controversy. Azmi was suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly until March 26, and multiple FIRs have been filed against him for allegedly hurting public sentiments.

‘Mentally Distorted’ to Consider Aurangzeb an Ideal Figure

Addressing the gathering in Lucknow, Yogi Adityanath stated, “Those who do not believe in India’s Sanatan traditions and culture and instead conspire against them should look at the fate of those they glorify. Only a mentally distorted person can consider Aurangzeb an ideal figure. I do not believe any mentally mature or intelligent person would look up to such a cruel ruler.”

Taking a direct dig at Aurangzeb’s legacy, he challenged those who admire the Mughal ruler to name their children after him. “If someone truly believes in Aurangzeb, they should first name their own son after him. And they should also be prepared to face the same fate Aurangzeb inflicted upon his father, Shah Jahan.”

‘Aurangzeb Let His Father Die of Thirst’

The Chief Minister further referenced Shah Jahan’s own writings about Aurangzeb. He highlighted that the Mughal ruler had imprisoned his father in Agra Fort and provided him with only a small pot of water every 24 hours, leading to a slow and painful death. Quoting Shah Jahan, Adityanath said, “No one should have a son as wretched as Aurangzeb. Even a Hindu son is better because he serves his parents in life and offers water to their souls after their passing. But you, Aurangzeb, left me dying of thirst.”

He also pointed out Aurangzeb’s brutal treatment of his own family, stating, “Aurangzeb was the same man who had his brother brutally murdered. If someone admires him, I will congratulate them, but they should also be ready to face the consequences.”

‘New India Respects Its Heroes’

Concluding his speech, Yogi Adityanath emphasized the changing face of India, asserting that the nation now respects its faith and traditions. “May God give wisdom to those who idolize cruel figures and help them honor India’s true heroes. This is a new India—an India that respects its heritage, strives to become the world’s largest economy, and knows how to respond to those who undermine its traditions.”

His remarks have reignited debates on historical narratives and their political interpretations, with opposition parties yet to issue a formal response.
