Opposition Doesn’t Trust Constitution: Fadnavis On EVM allegations

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis received a grand reception from party workers and supporters upon his arrival in Nagpur on Sunday. Speaking to reporters at the Nagpur airport, Fadnavis expressed joy at returning to his “janmabhoomi and karmabhoomi” (birthplace and workplace) after being sworn in as chief minister for the third time.

“It is a joyous moment that after becoming the chief minister, I have come to my janmabhoomi and karmabhoomi. Nagpur is my family, and it is welcome by my family,” Fadnavis stated, addressing the enthusiastic crowd gathered to greet him.

Fadnavis’s return comes after the Mahayuti combine’s landslide victory in the November 20 Maharashtra elections, where they secured 230 out of 288 assembly seats. The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi managed to win just 46 seats and has since alleged irregularities in electronic voting machines (EVMs).

When asked about the Opposition’s claims, Fadnavis dismissed the allegations as baseless and criticized the opposition parties for their lack of faith in democratic institutions. “These people are disappointed. They don’t have faith in democracy, the Election Commission, the Supreme Court, the Reserve Bank of India, or the Comptroller and Auditor General. Hence, they don’t believe in the Constitution framed by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar,” he remarked.

Fadnavis’s arrival was marked by a massive rally from the Nagpur airport to his residence in Dharampeth. Supporters lined the streets, waving banners and posters featuring his image. The route was adorned with huge hoardings celebrating the leader’s return.

The chief minister’s strong statements and celebratory reception underscore the Mahayuti alliance’s renewed mandate and Fadnavis’s firm position as a key political figure in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the Opposition’s continued focus on EVM allegations suggests that the debate over electoral processes is far from over.
