Opposition Not Allowed To Speak In Parliament, Their Voice Crushed: Rahul Gandhi

Mumbai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the central government of not allowing the opposition to speak in Parliament during the recently concluded monsoon session and termed it a “murder of democracy”.

He said that the voice of 60 per cent of people in the country was crushed and humiliated.

Speaking to reporters at Vijay Chowk during the opposition’s protest demanding repeal of three agricultural laws, the Wayanad MP said, “Today, we had to come out here to speak to you (media) as we (Opposition) are not allowed to speak in the Parliament. This is the murder of democracy.”

He said, “Parliament’s session is over. As far as 60 per cent of the country is concerned, there was no session of Parliament. The voice of 60 per cent of the country has been crushed, humiliated and yesterday in the Rajya Sabha physically beaten.”

Hitting out at the central government, RJP leader Manoj Jha said the insurance bill was passed by ‘martial law’ and not by Parliament.

Jha said, “We had heard about martial law in our neighbouring country, but we saw a martial law-like situation in Parliament yesterday. The insurance bill was not passed by Parliament, but was passed by martial law.”

Opposition parties on Wednesday took out a protest march against the Centre’s decision to adjourn Parliament indefinitely, two days before the scheduled conclusion. He also demanded the repeal of three agricultural laws.

The protest march started from Parliament and ended at Vijay Chowk. Opposition MPs were seen carrying placards of ‘Black Farm Law’.

Ahead of the protest march, opposition leaders also held a meeting at the office of the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Rajya Sabha yesterday to discuss the alleged molestation of women members in the Upper House.
