Our Diaspora Is Our Strength: PM On Meeting Indian-Americans In US

Mumbai: PM Narendra Modi commended the Indian diaspora for distinguishing itself across the world as the Indian-American community members welcomed him on his arrival in Washington.

“Grateful to the Indian community in Washington DC for the warm welcome. Our diaspora is our strength. It is commendable how the Indian diaspora has distinguished itself across the world,” tweeted PM Modi.

He also posted several pictures, in which he was seen shaking hands and waving the hands of the people who came to greet him. Amid light showers, members of the Indian American community gathered at the Air Force base and chanted PM Modi’s name and waved the Indian flag.

This is the first foreign visit of Prime Minister Modi beyond the neighbourhood, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi arrived in Washington DC for his visit to the United States at the invitation of US President Joe Biden.

He was received on behalf of the US government by TH Brian McKeon, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources. He was received by India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu along with defence attaches including Brigadier Anoop Singhal, Air Commodore Anjan Bhadra and Naval Attache Commodore Nirbhaya Bapna.

During his visit, he will address the United Nations General Assembly and attend the Quad Leaders Summit as well as have a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House.

Biden will host PM Modi at the White House on September 24 and this is going to be the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since Biden took over as US President on January 20.
