Owaisi Urges Bahrain to Back India’s Push for FATF Action Against Pakistan

Mumbai: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Asaduddin Owaisi made a strong appeal for international action against cross-border terrorism during his visit to Bahrain, calling on the Gulf nation to support India’s efforts to bring Pakistan back onto the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Speaking at a high-profile gathering of diplomats, business leaders, and expatriate community representatives, Owaisi emphasized that national security is a shared concern that transcends political boundaries within India.

“There is unanimity in our country, irrespective of whatever political affiliations we belong to. We have our political differences, but when it comes to the integrity of our country, it is high time our neighbouring country understands,” he said, directly referring to Pakistan’s record on terror financing.

Call for Bahrain’s Support

In a pointed diplomatic appeal, Owaisi urged the Bahrain government to take a firm stand on the issue of terrorism financing by supporting India’s bid to re-list Pakistan on the FATF grey list.

“I request and hope that the Bahrain government will help us in bringing Pakistan back to the grey list of FATF because this money has been used to support those terrorists,” he said.

His comments come at a time of growing international concern over the resurgence of extremist networks using illicit financial systems across South Asia and beyond. The FATF, a global watchdog on money laundering and terror financing, has previously placed Pakistan on its grey list, subjecting the country to increased monitoring and restrictions.

Broader Diplomatic Context

Owaisi’s remarks align with India’s broader diplomatic campaign to rally global and regional partners in pressuring Pakistan to curb terrorism financing. New Delhi has consistently argued that such funds are used to sustain and expand extremist activities, particularly targeting India.

India has also been working through diplomatic and intelligence-sharing channels with various Gulf nations, including Bahrain, to counter the spread of radical ideologies and to isolate states found complicit in terror activities.

A Unified Stand

By invoking a sense of national consensus, Owaisi positioned his appeal as representative of India’s unified stand against terrorism, irrespective of domestic political divides.

“When it comes to the integrity of our country, we stand united,” he said, adding moral and political weight to his appeal.

Significance of the Platform

Owaisi’s visit to Bahrain, a key player in the Gulf region and a longstanding partner of India, provided a crucial platform for advancing India’s counter-terrorism agenda in West Asia. His remarks were well-received by attendees, many of whom have been closely watching regional developments related to terrorism and geopolitical stability.

As India continues to seek global partnerships in combating terrorism, Owaisi’s statement signals growing bipartisan commitment to leveraging diplomatic forums for enhanced regional security and international accountability.
